Hey guys, hope you are all having a good new year so far.

Here is the new theme for the Feb/March 2012 challenge.

The idea is to see who can come up with the most horrifying and brutal werewolf creation mythos. Entries can either be in writing or art form. We really want to see you guys push the envelope with your imagination for this one.

so as an incentive, I *PenningtonBeast , will be offering the winner one colored portrait of a character of their choosing as a prize.

if anyone else wants to offer a prize for this one, please contact us.

You have until March 31st to get your entries in. Please indicate that your deviation is for the werewolf-horror contest in the artist's comments.

Looking forward to what you guys come up with!

EDIT: :iconwyntrfang: is also offering a bust shot as a prize for this theme's winner.

Thinking about it, I've realized that werewolf origin stories are pretty shoddy in popular culture. We've got boring (Underworld), cliched (Skinwalkers), and a combination of the two (Red Riding Hood, Twilight, many others). That's if we get it at all. Usually the audience is expected to just accept werewolves for what they are with no origin mythos involved. This is doubly frustrating since the "rules" for werewolves vary more than any other supernatural species. Even the folklore can't agree on much of anything. An item that creates a werewolf may cure it in a different culture or kill it in a third. If we're supposed to understand the "rules," we're got to have some sort of idea of where they came from. There are some good films where supernatural creature have no origin story, but this option rarely works half as well as Romero's unexplained zombie outbreak - and even Romero tosses around some theories ranging from scientific to supernatural. Every supernatural creature deserves some sort of creation story, even if the best that we're going to get is "when there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth." A spoonful of creativity makes it a lot easier for the audience to swallow their disbelief.

This is a good contest. I hope we get some strong contenders.

Can you enter something you already have in your gallery? And can you enter more than one deviation?

Nope, it has to be something you made especially for this, and only one.
